How to make your cat lose weight?

Animals aren’t much different from humans when it comes to their weight. Like us, they easily gain weight if their diet is poor or they don’t get enough exercise. And like us, excess weight isn’t just a cosmetic problem; it’s also the beginning of diseases and other health problems.

If your cat is gaining weight, take steps to help it lose weight.

A healthy and controlled diet

First and foremost, we recommend purchasing a cat food dispenser. These accessories will allow you to easily control the portions served and the meal times of your cat. With these two aspects taken care of, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t lose weight.

The food you choose must be food made for them. If you give them leftovers from your plates, be aware that our food is too fatty and too salty for them.

Always check the portion sizes. While an extra 30 grams on your plate may not be a big deal to you, it’s a big deal for an animal weighing only a few kilograms.

To find the perfect diet plan for your cat, talk to your veterinarian. They can also check to make sure he hasn’t become overweight yet. Sometimes cats suffer from diabetes or high cholesterol due to poor diet.

Too much weight damages their joints or causes weakness in the heart.

To reduce your cat’s hunger, feed them at set times. This hunger control prevents them from eating anything and everything while you’re away.

It may also be necessary to ban the cat from going outside if it constantly goes off to gorge itself in the neighbor’s garden. There’s no point in monitoring its food every evening if it eats 150 grams of potatoes and several pieces of fruit in the afternoon.

Regular exercise

If your cat stays on the couch, it’s very difficult for them to lose weight. Indoor cats often end up being heavy sleepers. This is not only bad for their weight, but also for their personality, as they tend to become more moody.

The owners are often partly to blame. When a kitten is young, it plays with whatever it can get its hands on. It even gets into mischief while playing. If you’ve banned these behaviors without providing it with toys, it’s perfectly normal for it to become an inactive, sedentary person.

Always have toys for your cat. A ball or a ball will keep them entertained. You can even use their appetite to force them to be active by using a kibble dispenser with pieces of food stuck inside. Only the play and the movement of the dispenser release the kibble. If they want to eat, they have to shake it and be active before nibbling.

The cat tree is a classic. There are hundreds of different models available. Choose one that fits the size of your home. Place it against a wall for a discreet look, while your cat will love climbing it to play or sleep, and sharpen its claws.

If you have a large garden, letting your cat outside is a good idea. This animal still retains many instinctive reflexes. It loves to chase birds, climb walls to observe, or even climb trees to find safe positions. These are all actions that are conducive to weight loss!
